Since the earliest years of its existence, OAO SUEK has invested a considerable part of its resources in the development of favorable living and working conditions in areas of operation. Our task is to create an environment in which our personnel, together with their families, can live comfortably, work, pursue educational goals, raise families, and obtain comprehensive medical care.

Starting in 2003, OAO SUEK has annually formed Agreements regarding social and economic partnerships with regional and, in some cases, municipal administrations, making financial contributions to a large number of social programs and events.

In 2007, we launched the non-profit organisation known as the "Regional social and economic support fund", aka "SUEK FOR REGIONS". The fund, together with local and federal authorities as well as non-governmental organizations, will handle the most urgent social problems in the area. The organization is planning to raise funds for the development of infrastructure, promote the creation of new jobs, and improve the level of education in the areas where the SUEK's units are situated. However, the idea upon which the fund built was to develop and implement motivational boosters so as to retain skilled professionals at SUEK's operating units and attract young people to work with SUEK. Five territories have been selected for the pilot projects: the cities of Kiselevsk (the Kemerovo Region), Borodino (the Krasnoyarsk Territory) and Chernogorsk (the Republic of Khakassia) and the towns of Sagan-Nur (the Republic of Buryatia) and Chegdomyn (the Khabarovsk Territory). The experience of successfully implementing projects that aim to identify and find solutions for the most pressing social issues will be applied to other areas of SUEK's activities.
